Sudha Murty files complaint alleging misuse of her name to deceive people in US events: Report
Sudha Murty has approached the Bengaluru police alleging that her name was used to deceive people in two separate instances related to events organised in the US. Two women have since been arrested,
The complaint, filed on Friday by Murty’s executive assistant Mamata Sanjay, stated that the Infosys Foundation chairperson was invited to attend the 50th anniversary of the Kannada Koota of Northern California (KKNC). Although Sudha Murty's office had received an email invitation for the event on April 5, on April 26, her office responded that she would not be able to attend it, the publication stated.
On August 30, however, Sudha Murty was surprised to come across photos and videos which indicating that she would be the chief guest at the event. When her office got in touch with KKNC organisers, they said that Lavanya -- one of the women arrested by the Bengaluru police -- had claimed to be Murty’s personal assistant and confirmed her presence at the event.
The second woman arrested in connection with Sudha Murty's complaint, Shruthi, collected $40 (about Rs 3,300) from people claiming that the Infosys Foundation chairperson would be attending a programme in the US, The Indian Express reported. The matter came to light after Murty’s office came across an advertisement that mentioned a meet-and-greet with their chief guest "Dr Sudha Murty" on September 26. Tickets for the event were being sold under this claim.
A case has been registered against the two women under the relevant sections of the IPC and Information Technology Act. A police officer privy to the case told the publication, “We are yet to ascertain whether these women are in the USA or India. Investigation is underway."
